Major water main rehabilitation work is planned to begin in September in the northwest section of the City of Taylor, in the area from Van Born south to the I-94 freeway and from Cooper Avenue west to Gulley Road. A public hearing is scheduled on the project from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, in the City Council Chamber of City Hall, 23555 Goddard Road.
Written notice was delivered to homes in the area today (August 24). A notice will follow in the mail.
The work will involve a widely used construction operation known as pipe bursting, which is a trenchless method, whereby the existing water main will be replaced by a new one in the same location. There will be some locations where a new water main will be located, and that will be performed by another trenchless method known as directional drilling. There will be localized excavation in yards to connect service lines to the service main. These areas will be restored shortly after the work is completed.Everyone is invited to attend Tuesday's public hearing, where detailed plans will be provided and City staff, engineering firm Wade Trim and contractor Bidigare Construction will be on hand to answer questions. If you have questions concerning this project, call Wade Trim at (734) 947-9700 and request to be forwarded to the Construction Department in regards to the 2016 Water Main Rehabilitation Project in the City of Taylor.
