Major road repairs expected near school

Major repairs are planned for Champaign Road between Pardee and Pelham, including a key intersection near Blair Moody Elementary School.

The intersection of Champaign and Hipp will be closed for approximately two weeks beginning Tuesday, November 15. The intersection will be reconstructed. Champaign will be closed at Polk and at Huron and traffic will be detoured north on Polk and Huron to Hayes.

Traffic to Blair Moody will be able to use Polk to get to the parking lot/pick up area, and exit out north on Hipp through the Champaign intersection up to Hayes. South bound Hipp will be restricted to residential traffic only from Crowley south to Champaign. South bound vehicles will not be able to reach Champaign.

The City of Taylor has contracted with Fiore Enterprises, LLC to repair these sections of Champaign Road.

Work across the board is scheduled to begin this week (November 14).  The concrete repair work will last approximately four weeks.  Fiore will give notification at least 24 hours in advance before removal work is to begin on the street. The contractor will begin by saw cutting the sections to be removed, followed by pavement removal, base preparation, drainage structure adjustment and repair, and placing and curing concrete.

After the concrete has cured for a minimum of five to seven days, work will begin on the other half of the street. Working hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

The street will be worked on one half at a time to allow traffic to continue during and after working hours.  However, due to the extent of some of the street repair areas, residents may lose access to the front or side of their property when work is being performed in front of or next door to their property, or on the opposite side of the street.  For the residents own convenience, and so that the work can be performed in a safe and timely manner, please park vehicles in other locations.

Trash pick-up will continue on the regularly scheduled day. Continue to place the trash receptacles at curbside on the opposite side of the street that work is taking place on, or at the center of the street next to a repair area.

We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause. The City and Fiore will try to limit the inconvenience as best as possible. Your cooperation in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Should you have any questions please contact Greg Mayhew, City Engineer, at (734) 374-1473, or by email at gmayhew@ci.taylor.mi.us.
