Mayor Rick Sollars, during the Tuesday, November 15 City Council meeting, announced that Wayne County plans to end work on Eureka Road construction between Allen and Racho roads on November 23. The end date will coincide with the beginning of the holiday shopping season at Southland Center.
The construction is in preparation for the upcoming development by Menards next year. Menards purchased the entire 80-plus-acre site that formerly housed the Gibraltar Trade Center. The road construction was scheduled to clear the path for that development. and has tied up traffic for many weeks.
"The county told me that the work is scheduled to be finished by November 23, which is ideal," Mayor Sollars told council. "I know that many drivers have had difficulty in that area, and we are glad to see those issues come to an end. The new traffic signals will come at a later time, but the roadwork will end."
Concerning the Menards development, Mayor Sollars said that continues to be on schedule. The company delayed developments around the country during the presidential election, but the Menards' plans have continued forward behind the scenes and groundbreaking was always for spring 2017.
"Look for Menards to go vertical in spring 2017," the mayor said.
Directly across from the Menards' location, the new La-Z-Boy development is quickly taking shape.
