DPW makes note of important dates

The Department of Public Works would like to alert Taylor residents to a couple of important dates in December.

The last day for compost curbside pickup by Rizzo Environmental Services will be December 15.  After that date, residents can take any compost directly to the City Transfer Station/Compost yard at 16300 Racho Road, which is between Eureka and Pennsylvania. Identification will be required. Business hours are from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays each week.

The department asks residents to be diligent when it comes to sorting trash, recyclables and compost. Never bury non-compost related items in compost containers, and do not put hazardous waste in trash containers. Violating this guidelines can cause major problems within the waste collection system, and cause harm to expensive equipment.

Residents are allowed two free visits to the transfer station per year, with a drop off limit of 500 pounds per visit. No "dump passes" are involved -- you just show your driver's license and your visit will be registered in the station's database.

In addition, now that Rizzo offers weekly curbside recycling pickup, the old recycling containers located at the DPW  Building at 25605 Northline Road will be eliminated as of December 29.  Residents can still take their recycling items to the transfer station Racho Road for disposal. Recycling items accepted at the site are used motor oil, cardboard, and commingled items like glass, plastic and tin.
