The 2017 State of the City address and luncheon is again being hosted by the Rotary Club of Taylor on Thursday, February 23, at the Lakes of Taylor Golf Course Banquet Facility. Doors open at 11:15 a.m. with the luncheon program starting at noon.
This event is a charity fundraiser. This year's charity groups, who will split the proceeds, are the Penrickton Center for Blind Children and the Taylor Schools' Robotics program. Since the State of the City address resumed in early 2014, the annual event has raised well over $15,000 for deserving charities. Past charities have included organizations like the Downriver Fish & Loaves Food Pantry and the Taylor Schools Educational Foundation.
Mayor Sollars expects to focus his speech on City finances, economic development and public services and infrastructure.
As part of the presentation, the Rotary will present the Paul Harris Fellowship Award to Greg Bzura, a longtime community leader and the director of the Junior League World Series, which has called Taylor home for well over three decades, and Thom Ouellette, longtime community volunteer and manager of the Taylor Farmer's Market.
The event is selling out quickly. To check on ticket availability, call (888) 640-5454.
