Mayor Rick Sollars and the employees of the City of Taylor would like to thank the owners and staff at Wahlburgers for using them as willing guinea pigs today (Wednesday, April 18) during the new location’s test run before opening from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Thursday, April 19.
Management at Wahlburgers invited City of Taylor employees to lunch and dinner today, so that the operation could “test” its operations. Wahlburgers, owned in part by actor Mark Wahlberg, is opening to the general public for the first time on April 19.
“We’d like to thank the staff of Wahlburgers for making such a gracious offer and our staff appeared to really enjoy the location, the service and the food -- I know I did,” Mayor Rick Sollars said. “We look forward to a long and successful relationship with the Wahlberg family. I think that Taylor residents will really enjoy this restaurant.”
Wahlberg attended a highly publicized VIP gathering at the restaurant, 21200 Penn Street, on April 15. He was on his way from Los Angeles to Atlanta. Despite the cold, wind and rain, fans and media still crowded the restaurant. Wahlberg and partner Nino Cutaro chose Taylor for the chain’s second Michigan location.
“I just love being here,” Wahlberg told the press while stopping at the site. “I’ve had some great experiences here. Great sports fans, great families.”
The company bought the old Big Boys Restaurant property outright, rather than rent it as they do in most locations. The location is directly across from the new Trader’s Pointe complex, being anchored by Menards. Menards plans to open in June, and eventually other big-box retailers will fill out that 80-plus-acre parcel.
Wahlburgers’ first Michigan location opened in Greektown in 2016. Another location is planned to open in Royal Oak in 2019, with more possibly on the horizon in the future. Ann Arbor, Lansing and other college towns are being considered.
