COVID-19 UPDATE: Wayne County's Daily Report for May 13, 2020

Health officials continue to warn governments and citizens to maintain caution when reopening economies. This and more in the Wayne County Daily Report.

  • Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), stated that only a “slow, steady lifting of lockdowns” could ease economic pains while keeping infections at bay and that social distancing restrictions were still the best weapons against the virus. WHO officials warned that ignoring precautions would inevitably lead to more infections.
  • Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, cautioned the Senate Health Committee that if the country reopened prematurely, “the consequences could be really serious.”
  • Dr. Robert R. Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, warned the Senate Health Committee that “we are not out of the woods yet.”
